A failure? dunno, the deer sure never knew what hit him. The lungs were soup, and the heart pretty much fell out of the chest. I guess the core & jacket separated, and then the core blew up. Neither shoulder hit, though IIRC some ribs were hit going in. I found the jacket of the bullet just under the hide, in front of the far shoulder. The deer stood straight up in the air on his hind legs, and then flopped and never twitched again. The deer was quartering away at about 100 yards, and it hit him just about perfect, behind the near shoulder. The charge was a generous helping of Rel 22, and it had a MV over 3100 fps.
